Trade relations between the United States and the European Union have run into trouble once again after a fresh warning of economic penalties from Washington. US President Donald Trump has cautioned that his administration is prepared to levy heavy tariffs against European imports. This stern message was delivered after European leadership in Brussels introduced a plan to grant Canada a novel position as the European Union's very first associate member.
The proposed arrangement received a sharp response from the US President, who dismissed the idea entirely and called the partnership proposal completely absurd. In addition to dismissing the plan, Donald Trump warned that bringing Canada into such a close relationship with the European bloc could even be viewed as an aggressive gesture toward the United States. Consequently, he threatened that substantial trade tariffs would be enforced on Europe if the proposal proceeds.
