EU Foreign Policy Chief Warns Of Rising Russian Threats Following AfD Election Victory

The European Union's senior foreign policy official, Kaja Kallas, has issued a strong warning regarding the continent's vulnerability to escalating security risks, particularly those originating from Russia. Speaking during an official visit to Lithuania, she expressed grave concerns after the political landscape shifted in Germany following a recent vote. Her remarks were triggered by the election victory of the Alternative for Germany, commonly known as the AfD, in the state of Saxony-Anhalt.

Kallas stressed that European nations have not done enough to protect themselves against expanding hybrid warfare strategies and foreign interference. To counter these vulnerabilities, the foreign policy chief urged regional leaders to prioritize defensive readiness, build stronger deterrence systems, and safeguard democratic institutions from external threats. At the same time, she explicitly acknowledged the democratic rights of citizens who participated in the election.

The electoral triumph of the AfD in Saxony-Anhalt has significantly fueled discussions across the European continent about its military and strategic preparedness. With geopolitical tensions mounting, Kallas argued that European nations must remain vigilant and prepared. The event serves as a major wake-up call for leaders to re-examine their defense mechanisms in an increasingly hostile and complex security environment.
