Former Malaysian Leader Najib Razak Cites Blocked Accounts for Inability to Pay $12.26 Million Fine

Former Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak is encountering a major obstacle in his attempt to secure a house arrest arrangement. According to an official public update released by his legal representatives on Sunday, September 20, the former head of government has expressed that he is currently unable to fulfill a fine amounting to 12.26 million US dollars connected to his pardon.

The defence team clarified that the ex-premier lacks individual control over his personal monetary resources and real estate holdings. They emphasized that a significant portion of his wealth is not under his direct command. Consequently, he is unable to mobilize or transfer the money needed to meet the financial conditions established for his house arrest request.

The main reason behind this financial limitation stems from official actions taken by state authorities. A substantial share of Najib’s bank accounts, physical assets, and properties remain subject to binding freeze directives. Additionally, government agencies are actively pursuing legal enforcement measures against his estate, restricting his ability to manage his personal finances.

Due to these combined government actions and legal restrictions, the former prime minister is unable to draw upon his assets. His legal representatives pointed out that until these state-enforced blocks on his accounts and properties are lifted, settling the required 12.26 million US dollar sum remains an impossible task for the former leader.
