Former Customs Officer Shot Dead in Bihar's Bhojpur; Family Blames Land Dispute

A retired customs official and state chief of the Kshatriya Kalyan Sangathan was gunned down during the day in Bihar's Bhojpur district on Thursday. The victim, identified as Ramkumar Singh, was out walking alongside his son near Jain College in the Kanakpuri area when attackers riding a motorcycle opened fire on him. Singh collapsed on the spot after sustaining around seven bullet injuries, while the perpetrators quickly fled. The brutal killing triggered fierce protests from local residents, who took to the streets demanding the swift arrest of those involved.

The victim's wife, Sushila Devi, alleged that a long-running feud over a 14-kattha property led to the murder. She stated that the family received constant threats after the land's boundary wall was demolished. She further claimed that former Mufassil station house officer Ram Kalyan Yadav had refused to register their written complaint earlier. Sushila Devi also accused Circle Officer Ankita Singh of altering land records in exchange for money, alleging that these actions directly contributed to her husband's death. Authorities have noted that these accusations are yet to be independently verified.

Bhojpur Superintendent of Police Awadhesh Dixit visited the site following the incident to assess the situation. He stated that law enforcement is considering the land squabble as a key potential motive while examining all dimensions of the crime. Addressing queries about the police's earlier handling of complaints, SP Dixit explained that official action would depend on the formal written statement from the family and subsequent findings. He assured the public that teams are actively working to track down and capture the gunmen.
