Tensions Mount in Keralam Congress as Chief Minister Rejects Allegations of Autocratic Functioning

Internal friction has intensified within Keralam's ruling United Democratic Front after Chief Minister V.D. Satheeshan dismissed accusations of solitary decision-making brought by alliance convener Adoor Prakash. The dispute centers on claims that significant government choices were finalized without consulting constituent partners or senior coalition figures. Rejecting these allegations, Satheeshan stated that all major steps were taken following detailed discussions with top leaders and in agreement with party guidelines.

The controversy first surfaced in early October when Adoor Prakash publicly expressed dissatisfaction regarding high-level cabinet-rank postings. Specific objections were raised over assigning Indian Union Muslim League member M.K. Muneer as head of the Administrative Reforms Commission, as well as appointing All India Forward Bloc leader G. Devarajan as the state's Special Representative in Delhi. Stating that he discovered these moves through news reports, Prakash submitted a written appeal on October 5 to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge seeking central intervention.

In response, Satheeshan refuted any friction with AICC general secretary K.C. Venugopal, maintaining that organizational harmony exists. Additionally, touching upon a Keralam High Court ruling that directed police action against former Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, his daughter Veena Vijayan, and CPM legislator P.A. Mohammed Riyas, the Chief Minister remarked that legal processes would proceed normally. Nevertheless, the ongoing public exchange highlights persistent factional disputes inside the state's leadership structure.
