Mirabai Chanu Ends India's 28-Year Wait With Asian Games Weightlifting Silver

Star Indian weightlifter Mirabai Chanu has added another prestigious honor to her sporting career by claiming a silver medal at the Asian Games. Competing in the women’s 49kg category, the athlete managed an impressive combined lift of 198kg. Her stellar performance secured a second-place finish in the event, adding a crucial medal to India's overall tally at the tournament.

The achievement is particularly historical for the nation, as it successfully brings an end to a long 28-year wait for a weightlifting medal at the continental event. Prior to this victory, Indian weightlifters had struggled to secure a podium finish at the competition for nearly three decades. Chanu's performance finally broke that long streak, delivering a moment of immense pride for Indian sports enthusiasts.

Before achieving this success at the continental stage, Chanu had already established herself as an elite global competitor by winning a silver medal at the Olympic Games. By earning this Asian Games silver, she has now secured the missing accolade from her international competition record. Her continued success in weightlifting reinforces her position as a premier athlete representing India on the global stage.

Historic Batting Showcase: Indian Women Set Record Score in Asian Games Final

Historic Batting Showcase: Indian Women Set Record Score in Asian Games Final

The Indian women’s cricket side delivered a masterclass with the bat during the gold medal clash against Sri Lanka at the Asian Games 2026. Batting through their full quota of 20 overs, the team accumulated a staggering 216 runs for the loss of three wickets. This dominant performance placed them in a commanding position in the high-stakes final of the competition.

With this monumental effort, the team etched its name into the record books by registering the highest-ever team score in the history of the Women’s Asian Games. The previous record was held by Hong Kong, who had scored 202 runs for four wickets during their fixture against Mongolia back in 2023. India's aggressive display comfortably surpassed that milestone.

Furthermore, this impressive innings marks only the second occasion where a squad has successfully passed the 200-run milestone in the women's cricket tournament at the continental games. The historic batting exhibition has set a formidable benchmark for Sri Lanka to chase down in their pursuit of the top prize.

By combining consistency with explosive strokeplay throughout the 20 overs, the Indian side managed to dictate the terms of the summit clash. As Sri Lanka prepares for their response, India's record-breaking scoreboard pressure remains the defining highlight of this memorable championship encounter.

CBI Books Retired Railway Officer in Assam Over Unaccounted Wealth

CBI Books Retired Railway Officer in Assam Over Unaccounted Wealth

The Guwahati unit of the Central Bureau of Investigation has registered a corruption case against a former official of the Northeast Frontier Railway. Sajal Kanti Das, who served as a Deputy Chief Engineer in Jiribam, along with his spouse, Sangita Das, stands accused of amassing financial assets well beyond their legal earnings.

According to probing officers, the couple’s total wealth experienced an extraordinary rise between 2016 and 2022. While their combined assets were valued at nearly Rs 39.85 lakh in 2016, the figure expanded to over Rs 1.28 crore by 2022. The investigating agency claims that approximately Rs 88.20 lakh of this total cannot be accounted for through their official income streams during this six-year timeframe.

The inquiry uncovered multiple real estate properties connected to the family across Cachar and nearby localities. These include a residential house worth approximately Rs 19 lakh built on five kathas of land at Rangpur, as well as land parcels in Lakhipur and Udharbond registered under Sangita Das's name. Additionally, she allegedly owned a commercial space on Club Road in Silchar valued around Rs 34 lakh, whereas her husband owned a flat in the same area worth more than Rs 20 lakh.

Alongside fixed properties, federal authorities identified numerous bank accounts, fixed deposits, and term deposits maintained separately by the pair. These accounts contained several lakhs of rupees, prompting further examination into the retired railway official's financial conduct.

Tamil Nadu Records Continuous Drop in Dengue Infections Over Three Years

Tamil Nadu Records Continuous Drop in Dengue Infections Over Three Years

Official statistical data released by government authorities shows that dengue fever cases in Tamil Nadu have experienced a continuous decline for the third straight year. The statistical records indicate a sustained year-on-year drop in overall infections reported across the state, reflecting a prolonged period of decreasing health numbers linked to the mosquito-borne illness.

The official figures compiled for the year 2026 show that Tamil Nadu documented a total of 17,049 dengue infections. In addition to the overall count of verified positive cases, government records confirmed that nine individuals lost their lives due to the viral infection over the course of that same annual period.

This statistical outcome underscores a consistent multi-year pattern across the southern state. By recording lower case totals once again, the year 2026 marked the third consecutive year in which overall dengue tallies maintained a downward path when compared to earlier reporting cycles.

In summary, these official metrics offer a clear picture of the recent dengue trends in Tamil Nadu. The logging of 17,049 total infections along with nine recorded fatalities in the year 2026 solidifies a three-year trajectory of steadily falling case numbers throughout the entire state.

Former Malaysian Leader Najib Razak Cites Blocked Accounts for Inability to Pay $12.26 Million Fine

Former Malaysian Leader Najib Razak Cites Blocked Accounts for Inability to Pay $12.26 Million Fine

Former Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak is encountering a major obstacle in his attempt to secure a house arrest arrangement. According to an official public update released by his legal representatives on Sunday, September 20, the former head of government has expressed that he is currently unable to fulfill a fine amounting to 12.26 million US dollars connected to his pardon.

The defence team clarified that the ex-premier lacks individual control over his personal monetary resources and real estate holdings. They emphasized that a significant portion of his wealth is not under his direct command. Consequently, he is unable to mobilize or transfer the money needed to meet the financial conditions established for his house arrest request.

The main reason behind this financial limitation stems from official actions taken by state authorities. A substantial share of Najib’s bank accounts, physical assets, and properties remain subject to binding freeze directives. Additionally, government agencies are actively pursuing legal enforcement measures against his estate, restricting his ability to manage his personal finances.

Due to these combined government actions and legal restrictions, the former prime minister is unable to draw upon his assets. His legal representatives pointed out that until these state-enforced blocks on his accounts and properties are lifted, settling the required 12.26 million US dollar sum remains an impossible task for the former leader.
